What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is a series of trays that are designed for you and only you to straighten your teeth without metal braces. These aligners are made of clear plastic that is both comfortable to wear (no metal abrasions) and virtually invisible. You wear them over your teeth and the aligners will gradually straighten your teeth. The movements your teeth will take are carefully constructed by your dentist and each new tray gets you closer to having the smile you have always dreamed of. The best part of Invisalign is that most people will never know you are getting your teeth straightened.

Invisalign vs. Regular Orthodontic Treatment (Regular Braces)

With regular dental braces, you may experience some or all of the following: pain, discomfort, mouth sores or injuries caused by the brace wires, tooth decay (from inadequate brushing and flossing), plaque buildup, tooth discoloration, tooth/bracket breakage, or difficulty eating. As if that were not enough, there are also the personal sacrifices — you will not be able to eat all the yummy food like popcorn, chips, bagels, hard-crusted bread, pizza crust, pretzel, nuts, certain candies…plus apples, carrots, corn on the cob, and more.

What about Veneers or Other Similar Treatments Instead of Invisalign?

Many patients have asked about the benefits of veneers when compared to Invisalign. While veneers are certainly an option for improving your smile, they only cover up certain dental imperfections, rather than correct them. This means that some existing periodontal problems could still remain. Veneers are applied to the front side of the teeth only. Often considered a quick fix, veneers typically need to be replaced every 5 to 10 years. Coffee, tea and red wine need to be avoided to prevent discoloration, and care must be taken to prevent chipping or breaking the veneer. Veneers are another great option and Rocky Creek Dental Care provides them to create a beautiful smile in case you are not a good candidate for Invisalign.
